IAS Exam is a prestigious national level competition exam piloted by UPSC annually to recruit candidates for civil services like IPS, IFS (Foreign), IAAS, IRS, IDAS, CAPF-AF, and others.

Salary of an IAS

The starting salaries of all Civil Servants (Group A) are the same (Pay Level 10).

7th Pay Commission recommendations are approved by Cabinet on 29th June 2016. Now the basic pay of entry-level IAS officers is Rs. 56100.

Allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA) will be extra. The salary will increase as experience increases. The basic pay of Cabinet Secretary is fixed at Rs.2,50,000.

The IAS officer’s per month salary starts at ₹ 47,250 for the entry-level positions. Every year, the basic pay rises to about3% for the entry-level officers. For the Cabinet Secretary level, the maximum pay goes up till ₹202,500.

Career as IAS officer

The career path of an IAS officer can be very interesting. Serving in the IAS, or Indian Administrative Service is a job that offers lofty positions of power and status. No job is comparable to it.

Even people with both IIT and IIM degrees fight hard to get selected for the merit list of the UPSC.

An IAS officer may get the chance to work for people at the subdivision and district levels during the earlier part of his career. Such an officer sees the implementation of the government policies at the grass-root level.
