Brief History

  • Nation cadet corps was first commenced in Germany in 1666.
  • In the early 1940s, Pandit Hradaya Nath Kunjru recommended that the established of a cadet organization in schools and colleges at the National Level in India.
  • It came into existence in India on 15 July 1948 after the National Cadet Corps Act was accepted by the then Governor-General.
  • In 1948, Girl Division of NCC was incorporated to proffer equal and unbiased opportunities to school and college going girls.
  • In 1950, the Air Wing was added and in 1952, the Naval Wing was added to NCC.
  • In 1963, after the 1962 Sino-Indian war, the NCC training was made mandatory
  • In 1968, it again became voluntary.
  • NCC cadets catered as the second line of defense during 1965 Indo-Pakistan war and 1971 Bangladesh-Pakistan war.
