RDX: Development And Explosive

RDX related questions: What is the full form of RDX, What does RDX stand for, What is the meaning of RDX, RDX full Form in English.

RDX stands for research development and explosive or demolition explosive. It is an explosive compound which belongs to nitramines, a group of organic nitrate explosives. It is also called cyclonite, hexogen and T4. Its chemical name is cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine and the chemical formula is C3H6N6O6.

It is a white solid without smell or taste, widely used as an explosive

Outside military applications, RDX is also used in controlled demolition to raze structures

RDX was discovered in the year 1899 by Georg Friedrich Henning of Germany it can be initiated by friction, impact, and temperature. It was first used in the Second World War to create powerful explosives.

RDX-FULL-FORMRDX has a high nitrogen content and a high O:C ratio, both of which indicate its explosive potential for the formation of N2 and CO2.RDX undergoes a deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) in confinement and certain circumstances RDX, when exploded in the air, has about 1.5 times the explosive energy of TNT per unit weight and about 2.0 times per unit volume.

RDX is insoluble in water, with solubility 0.05975 g/L at a temperature of 25°C.

Properties

  • It is hard and odorless
  • It is insoluble in waters and other organic liquids
  • Its molecular weight is 222.12 g/mol
  • It’s melting point is 205.5°C
  • It decomposes at 213°C
  • It is white crystalline solid
